I had a great day Friday. So much fun seeing friends from around the world and meeting new ones we’ll be glad to see again. I played a bunch of guitars today, checked out some new products, interviewed designers, nerds, geniuses and rock stars. We walked and we walked and we looked at so many cool instruments and heard some great players.

A highlight for me today is a cool story. It started when I walked into Hall E for the first time and bumped into Jason Cale, guitar player for the USAF Mobility Band. I’d met him at NAMM2010 during an interview and we became friends. Anyway, a little while later, I get a text to meet him at the Premiere Builders booth. When I got there Eric Gales was playing and man was he playing! Left-handed, upside down and rocking a pretty good crowd of 30 people or better standing in the aisle.
We shot some great stuff to show you. Afterwards he sat down with us and talked about his mentors and what he’s up to. When I asked this young guitar player about his guitar heroes he rattled off a list of some of the greatest guitar players ever. Very shortly after that we got to talk with a guy who has been around a while and played with most of them.
As a matter of fact, I got to sit down at the J.P. Guitars booth and play a set with Jerry Miller of Moby Grape. We had a great time and a great crowd of 30 or so people blocking the aisles and taking pics and video.
That’s not all, but it’s all you get tonight. I gotta get some sleep. In the meantime, enjoy a couple of old guys in hats doing what we do, playing guitars, laughing and makin’ memories. Good Night Jerry, Good Night, NAMM Day Two.
Did I mention the huge NAMM Annual All-Industry Drum Circle? Great friends, great drums supplied, as always, by the fine folks at REMO, and the Godfather of the modern drum circle movement, Arthur Hull.
