Lacuna Coil at Scout Bar, Clear Lake
Photos and Review by Carox
When I arrived at the Scout Bar, Clear Lake in Houston by 8:15 pm, it was already packed. Local band Carry the Storm was about two songs into their set list, opening for the touring bands Otherwise from Las Vegas, NV and the headliner, Lacuna Coil, all the way from Milan, Italy.

The Set List for Carry the Storm that night was: Mouth of Madness, Waste away, Fear, Back of the Line, Cleansing, and A New Level (Pantera). The band members of Carry the Storm play a tight, united set. There is excellent synchronicity between the band members. Alex Lorenzana is cool and collected on bass, Kelly FitzSimons is a top-notch shredding guitarist and is fast taking his place as such in the Houston scene (check out the Pantera tribute). Dynamic singer Nick Koumbis went on stage that night with an injured foot and superb drummer Darren Robertson’s drum set was center forward on the stage. The tightly concentrated, back-to-the-wall audience gave Carry the Storm a great response. This band will be playing with Shadows Fall at the end of May in Houston. Till then, you can check out their music on ReverbNation.
Our Houston metal boys were followed by the rocking Otherwise from Las Vegas, NV, who are currently on tour with Italy’s Lacuna Coil.
The present band members are: Adrian Patrick (Lead Vocals), his brother Ryan Patrick (Guitar/Vocals), Flavio Ivan (Bass/Vocals), Corky Gainsford (Drums/Vocals), and Vassilios Metropoulos (Guitar/Vocals).
Otherwise have just released their album True Love Never Dies under Century Media Records. Buy it if you want to check out this punchy dark horse of a rock band that is emerging to the forefront this year and will be found supporting other national acts this Summer.
Their Set List was: Die For You, Lighthouse, Vegas Girl, Silence Reigns, Stop, Drop &Roll (Doesn’t Work in Hell), Soldiers.
The headliner was Lacuna Coil, the Italian gothic metal band from Milan. They are currently on their Dark Legacy Tour. Their sixth studio album, Dark Adrenaline, produced once again by Don Gilmore, was released at the beginning of this year and they played six of the new songs from this album that night. This tour kicked off in early April in California and Houston was lucky enough to have them on one of their stops.
By the time they came on stage the Scout Bar was a concentrated, hard-to-penetrate wall of folks. The barrier set up in front of the stage under direction of Scout bar manager Thomas Wilson was a reminder that this is a very big international band, behave!
The current members of Lacuna Coil are the beautiful contralto, Cristina Scabbia (Vocals), Andrea Ferro (Vocals), Marco CotiZelati (Bass), Cristiano Migliore (Guitars), Marco ‘Maus’ Biazzi (Guitars) and Cristiano ‘CriZ’ Mozzati (Drums). The classic metal set list was part acoustic, and looked like this : I Don’t Believe in Tomorrow, I Won’t Tell You, Kill the Light, Senzafine, Heaven’s A Lie, Self Deception , Circle, Entwined, Give Me Something More, Spellbound, Falling (Acoustic),Closer (Acoustic), Within Me (Acoustic), Shallow Life (Acoustic), Our Truth, Upside Down, Invisible Light, To Live is to Hide, 1.19. No Need to Explain, Trip The Darkness, My Spirit.
The tour highlights some of their amazing work over the last outstanding 15 years or so, as was its intent. The itinerary of this band is quite amazing and they will be playing with Megadeth and Rob Zombie again at the end of this year as well as many premier music festivals. Maybe see you at the Rockharz Open Air 2012 in July!
