Stryper at House of Blues, Houston
The last time I saw the Christian rock band Stryper was at Rocklahoma a few years ago. They were headlining and the crowd was so massive I had to watch them on a screen that was overhanging the stage. I went to see them again this night in a much more intimate setting, at House of Blues, Houston, a few days before my trip to Rocklahoma 2012.

Steel Panther Balls Out at House of Blues Houston
Photos and Review by Carox
I was told that I might not get home from the Steel Panther gig if they abducted me on their tour bus or nabbed me backstage. I was told to “watch for the part when they pull you up on stage” and desperately hoped I would be pulled up on stage. Dressed in appropriate spandex, I arrived to get into the pit at House of Blues in Houston just a few minutes before they came out.

Jesus and The Mary Chain

Scottish folk have a sense of kindred pride that lasts a lifetime, so a severe head cold and several doses of anti-cold medicine were not going to prevent me from attending an event that I could “smell” was going to be a good one. Two nights before their show in SXSW Austin, on March 13, 2012, Jesus and the Mary Chain returned to Houston to play one of their first reunion gigs in a mini-tour of Texas.

Review of House of Blues, Houston Show

The House of Blues Houston is a favorite haunt because of the superb lighting and sound you can experience there. It is also a spot I have seen some of my all-time favorite bands. This night was Warbringer, Symphony X and Iced Earth and I was full of the nervous Carox adrenaline which I experience before supporting major bands like these.

A Family of Spicolis Sees in A Flock of Seagulls

It was too good to miss: a New Wave Band with its origins in Liverpool, England, complete with original vocalist/ keyboardist, coming to Cullen’s Upscale American Grille. Cullens, in the heart of Houston’s space city, Clear Lake, is a great place to go for food, after-work socials, music and just purely innocent, crazy dance fun. Manager and staff are super-professional and personal, so it is almost like being on vacation for a few hours.

A Friend of FallacY Hears Anvil Ring in Houston
Photos and Review by Carox
John Escamilla of Jetspeed Entertainment is a professional, straight-up businessman intent on bringing fresh, live, dynamic music to Houston. Last year I saw performances ranging from Lita Ford to Testament. A list of all his shows would take up a page by itself. John works with local bands, too, to give them a share of the limelight so the events are usually well-attended and diverse. This night was no different. I drove up and the sight of several tour buses/trucks made me salivate as always. I parked in the convenient backstage parking and walked to the ticket booth, ready to immerse myself in the usual Warehouse busy buzz.
