at the 40th Anniversary Jimi Hendrix Tribute Concert

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s US debut at the historic Monterey Pop Festival (1967-2007), and coinciding with the release of the DVD Jimi Hendrix: Live at Monterey on Monday, October 29, 2007.

A screening of the Monterey footage was followed by an hour-long live concert performed by an all-star band featuring guitarist Gary Moore, and surviving Jimi Hendrix Experience members, Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Billy Cox (the bassist who also played in the Band of Gypsys) which was simulcast to over 180 cinema screens.

BFMN’s Lynne Saunders of Moonshayde Photography was there. These are her photos.

Moonshayde Remembers: “Last time I saw Gary was at his end of tour gig in Brighton (where he lived).
I was chatting to Gary’s plumber at the aftershow party. He had been invited along to the gig
as a reward for having to put up with Gary practicing as he worked on Gary’s house radiators.
Gary was experimenting (for hours) with different pedals and effects
to perfect his guitar playing for the Jimi Hendrix DVD launch night.”

Moonshayde Remembers: “I’ll always remember sitting next to him on the sofa at Derek’s…
mini amp plugged in and Gary playing guitar along with classical music on BBC 2…
and the cushion fights…and porridge…and rock socks.”
