For Ronnie James Dio, legendary vocalist for Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell and Dio, the battle with stomach cancer is over, according to his wife, Wendy Dio. He was 67 years old. Today his official website is simply a black page, featuring the following message from his wife:

Message from Wendy Dio

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever. - Wendy Dio

You can leave your condolences on Facebook

If you have any personal performance photos of Ronnie you’d like featured, send them along to BareFootMusicNews and we will post them with credit.

It can’t be overstated what an incredible singer/songwriter Dio was. I was lucky enough to see him on the Mob Rules tour, twice solo and twice with the reunited Black Sabbath (Heaven and Hell). In my opinion the Holy Diver album is one of the best Rock/Metal albums ever made. He was a deeply intelligent man who lived for his music, not many out there like him.

He will be missed.

R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

Hiya Brock! (Faded Natives) Good to see you.

The impact Ronnie had on music is quite a legacy. I have been reading forums all over with people who say much the same thing. Each personal experience, fascinating and touching as they are, all add up to a pretty cool human.

Someone said: If he aint in hell, there’s a pit in heaven…
