On the third Sunday of June we celebrate those who have filled the very special role of “Dad” in our lives. June was made for getting out of school, out of the house, and into fun in the sun, and celebrations in the great outdoors always go better with music!

36th Annual Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival, June 16-19, 2011

Nevada County Fairgrounds, 11228 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley
10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday

The festival, presented by the California Bluegrass Association, features four days of family-friendly entertainment, including more than 30 bluegrass and old-time bands playing on three stages, jamming, workshops, children’s programs, a luthier’s pavilion and on-site camping.

Live Oak Music Festival, June 17-19, 2011

Live Oak Camp, about twenty minutes west of Santa Barbara
Festival gates open Friday morning at 8:00 a.m., closing at noon on Monday

The Live Oak Music Festival is a three day concert and camping event held every year on Father’s Day weekend in the hills above Santa Barbara, California. 100% of Live Oak proceeds go to support KCBX Public Radio. The three-day event provides basic camping accommodations under the shade of old oak trees. Rounding out the camping fare, a variety of diverse food concessions are available. Adding to the fun of the mainstage music is a collection of arts and crafts booths, music workshops, fireside jamming, and rowdy barn dances on Friday and Saturday nights. This year’s Live Oak Music Festival features 2011 Grammy Award winner Mavis Staples, Toots and the Maytals, the Texas Tornados, and a full schedule of international artists. They have also booked a dizzying lineup of Kids Camp acts for the little Oakies to enjoy, including juggler extraordinaire, Mark Wilder, and rocket scientist, Aurora Lipper!

Father’s Day Music Festival, June 20, 2010, 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

The Father’s Day All Music Festival, June 19, 2011, Gate opens at noon.

Slamology Automotive and Music Festival, June 18 and 19

Gates are open June  18 are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and June 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If your dad has a love for automobiles, the Slamology Automotive and Music Festival is the place to be this Father’s Day. The Slamology Festival is a car stereo competition and car show with top local musical acts and more. Expect club games, great vendors, wonderful food, Bikini Contest, and, oh yes, Live Bands and Awesome Trophies – a weekend full of good clean automotive/music fun. “There’s a lot going on, and we have a kids area,” said Brandy Patrick, who’s with marketing for truckshow.org which puts on the festival. “There is a class in the car show, a special entrance class, where anyone with custom wagons or dads who’ve worked on kids power wheels can enter them in the show.” In addition, the popular show “My Classic Car” will be filming an episode at the festival. Ages 10 and under are free.

2011 Johnny Cash Music Festival, Saturday, June 18, 2011

Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 West Harbor Boulevard, Ventura, CA 93001

Ross Emery’s Roadshow Revival presents X - (John Doe, Exene, DJ Bonebrake, Billy Zoom), Kris Kristofferson, The Blasters, the Stray Cat-Lee Rocker, Levi Dexter w/ The Buzz Campbell Band and more. The Roadshow Revival is all about honoring Johnny Cash with a celebration like no other. Thousands of those fans are expected to converge upon the Ventura County Fairgrounds to celebrate “Johnny In June” and enjoy live music from true legends of the Rockabilly Music scene, playing a mix of their hits and Cash classics. Food, beer and wine and a few surprises are all in store for attendees. Rare Johnny Cash memorabilia will be on display, and collectibles and merchandise will be available for purchase. Children under 12, dressed in black, get in free; and there are discounts available for seniors, military, students and AAA members.
