Saturday at the Wanee Festival started with some heavy rain. Being a giant wuss, I stayed in the safety of dry areas, primarily my car. The rain blew away and what was left was a steamy, hot Florida April day. I headed off to the Peach stage to listen to Taj Mahal. As I walked up, the music started and blues kicked in. Once I got to the photo pit entrance, I got the for-real blues. I walked up and showed my credentials; the guard apologized profusely and said that due to “issues,” I could only go in through the front gate.  To do this, I would have to walk through a few thousand people that had paid over $200 and had been waiting patiently to see Taj Mahal. So, I didn’t shoot, but I did get to sit and listen to Taj Mahal. His brand of blues is absolutely tremendous.

Review and Photos by Jim Messer

Last weekend the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park & Campground held the jewel of their festival lineup, Wanee Festival. The campground boasts over 500 acres for top-of-the-line camping. They have primitive and electric/water sites, trails for hiking, numerous bat houses and of course, the beautiful Suwannee River. When it comes to a music festival, there is truly no finer place in Florida to have one.

Standby for action…anything could happen in the next two hours. Troy Tempest’s rocker son and his band of Swedish rock’n'roll gypsies roll back into London for the fourth time in 12 months as part of their seemingly never-ending tour promoting their fine Last Look at Eden album. Europe’s third and strongest release since reuniting in 2003 after a 10-year hiatus is helping to propel their resurgent popularity to new levels.

With special thanks to Peter Noble, Moonshayde Photography presents a photo set from the sold-out Europe concert. Click Here! Don’t miss it!

Bloodstock Open Air Festival, the Grand Finale

It was a chilly night and, yet again, we got very little sleep. This time it was thanks to other campers playing “Trash Bin Jousting” for several hours. Think medieval jousting (with no horses) using trash cans instead of lances, resulting in the loud, metallic thunk of trash cans followed by jubilant shouts of approval and you’ve got it. However, the day started off bright and sunny; ready for whatever next!!

With thanks to Jarkko Aaltonen, barefoot bassist for Korpiklaani

On Day Two of Bloodstock Open Air, They Moshed in the Mud

Awakening from very little sleep due to the night’s downpour and a fellow campmate’s snoring through a Marshall amp cranked up to 11 it was a late start to the day. Breakfast was accompanied by rain and the distant ‘Nightwish-ish’ sound of Leaves Eyes followed by Evile who woke up the rest of the campers.
